What Counts as a Maxi Taxi in Melbourne
A maxi taxi is a van bodied cab licensed to carry more than the four passengers a sedan can take. Ours seat up to 11 with 8 large bags, which is the practical difference: the seats are only useful if the bags come too.
People search for it half a dozen ways, maxi cab, maxi van, group taxi, eleven seater. It is all the same vehicle and the same booking.
One Maxi or Two Sedans, the Actual Sums
Two sedans means two flag falls, two meters running, and two cars that rarely pull up at the same moment. One maxi runs a single meter with a $17.80 surcharge added once. On most trips across Melbourne the maxi comes in cheaper, and it is always simpler.
The table below prices both so you can see the gap on a real run rather than take our word for it.
| Trip | One maxi | Two sedans | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Point Cook to Melbourne Airport | $99.01 | $162.42 | Maxi saves $63.41 |
| Dandenong to Melbourne Airport | $162.06 | $288.52 | Maxi saves $126.46 |
| Box Hill to Melbourne Airport | $108.43 | $181.26 | Maxi saves $72.83 |
| Werribee to Melbourne Airport | $109.93 | $184.26 | Maxi saves $74.33 |
Estimates on the day rate for a group that would not fit one sedan. Two sedans means two flag falls and two meters. The meter on the day is the final word unless you agree a fixed fare with us by phone or email first.
What a Maxi Taxi Melbourne Booking Costs
A metered fare depends on the distance, the time of day and the traffic, so there is no single price for the whole city. What we can do is show you an estimate for your trip before you book it, which is what the fare calculator on this page does, or agree a fixed fare with you by phone or email.
Our estimates use the Safe Transport Victoria maximum rates: $5.40 flag fall on the day rate, $2.10 a kilometre, with a $18.00 minimum fare on any trip.
| From | To the airport | Maxi to the airport | Maxi to the city |

| Melbourne CBD | 23.5 km | $79.92 | n/a |
| St Kilda | 30.8 km | $99.51 | $38.32 |
| Box Hill | 38.7 km | $108.43 | $65.20 |
| Dandenong | 59.3 km | $162.06 | $98.17 |
| Point Cook | 36.1 km | $99.01 | $78.01 |
Day rate estimates including the $17.80 maxi surcharge, and the toll where the route uses one. The meter on the day is the final word unless you agree a fixed fare with us by phone or email first.
Maxi Taxi to Melbourne Airport
The reason to book a maxi for the airport is the boot, not just the seats: a case each for the whole group still fits, and everyone arrives at the terminal together instead of in two cars ten minutes apart.
Priced on the meter, with the toll counted where the route uses it, and the $5.26 airport fee added only on the leg that leaves the airport. These are computed estimates for a maxi, not a rounded figure.
| From | Distance | Maxi to airport | Maxi from airport | Sedan, for comparison |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Point Cook | 36.1 km | $99.01 | $104.27 | $81.21 |
| Werribee | 41.3 km | $109.93 | $115.19 | $92.13 |
| Craigieburn | 17.2 km | $59.32 | $64.58 | $41.52 |
| Sunbury | 19.6 km | $64.36 | $69.62 | $46.56 |
| Melbourne CBD | 23.5 km | $79.92 | $85.18 | $62.12 |
| Dandenong | 59.3 km | $162.06 | $167.32 | $144.26 |
Estimates on the day rate. A maxi carries the group and the luggage in one car, where the sedan column is a single car for up to four people. The meter on the day is the final word unless you agree a fixed fare with us by phone or email first.
Coming Back From Tullamarine
An airport pickup in a maxi is worth booking rather than joining the rank. There are fewer maxis than sedans in the queue, and a group with luggage cannot easily split across two cars at the last minute. The $5.26 rank fee applies to this leg and is already in the estimate.
Give us the flight number and the pickup follows the flight, so a delay does not turn into waiting time on the meter. If half the party is flying in and half is coming from home, book them as two jobs with the same contact rather than forcing one booking around two pickup times.
When People Book One
- Airport runs where a family has a case each and a sedan boot will not take it.
- Nights out where a group wants one car there and one car back, not four rideshares.
- Sporting clubs and work crews moving between venues on the same schedule.
- Weddings, where guests need shuttling between the ceremony and the reception.
- Anything with a pram, a bulky instrument or sports gear that will not fold down.
